Ozprey Grading is based in Perth, Western Australia and was founded by Kenji and Emilie (Brother and sister). It was named after the Eastern Osprey, a bird of prey found around Oceania. The reason for this choice is its iconic presence in some regions of the state, but also for its unique hunting technique. Spotting its prey from up to 40m above the surface of the water, the osprey torpedoes towards it, diving up to an impressive 1m deep, rarely missing its target. Similarly, we hope to deliver clinical and accurate reports for your cards too, through our pre-grading services.

Our passion started in the early 2000s, with WOTC Pokémon cards, before moving more towards Konami’s Yu-Gi-Oh. Grading and preserving those cards back then were unfortunately not priorities, resulting in a decent amount of the older cards being damaged. With this in mind, we have created Ozprey. Grading has become an expensive, yet essential way of preserving and collecting Trading Card Games and as collectors ourselves, we understand that. The original goal for the Ozprey’s Pre-grading service was hence to deliver accurate and affordable condition reports of your favourite cards and leave the decision of grading to YOU. With prices of graded cards varying massively depending on the final grades and the companies issuing them, Ozprey also hopes to provide you with an estimated grade to make help you manage your collection (a.k.a. which cards is worth encasing). 

That particular aim was our main drive throughout 2022 and what started off in 2022 as a pre-grading and middleman service quickly evolved into our online store. Fast forward to now, through our network we now offer access to English and Japanese Sealed TCG products as well as card supplies to help you protect and showcase your collections. 

1.2 Services Available

1.2.1 Pre-grading Services

Currently, we only provide limited spots for condition reports for Pokémon TCG as well as One-Piece. We are currently working to expand our field with more Pokémon card variants such as Carddass and others. We will also be moving to the other popular TCGs such as DragonBall and Yu-Gi-Oh in due time as well as sports cards. We value consistency, so we will be regulating how many cards can be sent through for pre-grading on a weekly basis. As mentioned, this also means that our number of slots are limited.

We process our mails on Tuesdays and Saturdays and have a turnaround time of around 5 working days (from receiving and collecting your cards). Note that this timeframe is the condition processing time and does not include postage time which we cannot control. For example, if we receive your cards late Tuesday, we will only be able to dispatch on Saturday morning. We however endeavour to dispatch as fast as possible.

Ozprey prides itself in its use of technology as well as the human eye to produce premium and accurate reports. Using our specifically designed programs, we measure and calculate the centering of your cards to fractions of a millimetre. We then use cameras and optimal lighting conditions to pick up on any surface condition which may affect your grades. Finally, we manually inspect the cards with the help of magnifying tools and equipment to assess physical properties such as the corners and edges. By using raw data and technology, we aim at providing real and unbiased results. Estimates are based off strict criteria usually followed by the likes of PSA and BGS.

All the cards analysed by our system is assigned a unique ID and the conditions and comments for the cards are saved. This filing system allows us to allow for customers to reach out to us if they have any questions. We are first and foremost collectors too, so we do our best to help when possible. 1.2.2 Sealed Products

As mentioned above, we provide Pokémon products for both English and Japanese sets. While our English supply is through official distributor channels, our Japanese supply is imported by ourselves. This allows us to offer one of the best prices, coming form a business, on the market for Japanese TCGs. Our stock is updated weekly, with pre-orders available before each release. 

While we receive English supplies on release day, Japanese products only arrive onto our shores a few days later. Appreciating more releases happen in Japan on Fridays, we only receive them in Perth around midweek the following week. Please bear this in mind for pre-orders! The day we receive the items is also the day the orders are packed for shipping. So be assured that you will receive them as soon as possible. 

1.2.3 Card Supplies and Displays

On our path to providing the best pre-grading services available, we came across multiple brands for card supplies. As a firm believer that quality should come first as well as affordability, we have over the years partnered up with some of our local brands. From Penny sleeves to Binders, you will find something to fit your collection and keep it safe from our list of products. As collectors, being able to display your grails and collections is a rewarding experience. Which we also offer through our selection of Acrylic displays.
